Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When someone emails us, we retain the message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive routine technical information when a page loads:
- Page-view dates and times
- The pages opened and the time spent on them
- The referring site, when one is supplied
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. Along with analytics services, they help summarize traffic patterns, popular pages, and points where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, though disabling them may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Maintaining site performance and availability
- Routing a search request to the selected outside service
- Understanding which content visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
This site does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It explains how to reach Sauk County custodians, Wisconsin Circuit Court Access, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Information Bureau, and the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry. Wisconsin Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31-19.39, governs access to records held by Wisconsin authorities. CIB collection and fingerprint submissions arise under Wis. Stat. §§ 165.83-165.84. Those laws govern official agencies and do not turn this private site into a public records custodian. We do not assemble visitor data into consumer reports and are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by the provider's privacy policy rather than this one. Each provider controls its own retention and sharing practices, so review those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Sauk County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may also track activity across websites to select ads. That processing occurs on their systems.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Outside services that process a submitted search
- Advertising networks that serve ads
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
We use standard safeguards for information in our control. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor is believed to have supplied such data, contact us so it can be removed.
Your Data Rights
Rights over personal data depend on the law that applies to the visitor and the processing. Wisconsin Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31-19.39, concerns government records rather than a general private-site deletion right. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Request deletion where the law provides that right
- Ask what personal data we hold about them
- Seek correction of inaccurate personal data
- Opt out of eligible forms of processing
Updates to This Policy
