Sauk County Arrest History
Sauk County arrest records begin with the agency that had authority at the scene. That may be the Sauk County Sheriff, Baraboo Police, Reedsburg Police, Wisconsin Dells Police, Sauk Prairie Police, Wisconsin State Patrol, a DNR warden, or another authorized agency. The arresting office creates the incident or arrest narrative. If the person is accepted at the county jail, jail staff create a separate booking and custody record. A city report stays with the city custodian even when the jail booking happens in Baraboo.
Qualifying arrests can also produce fingerprint submissions to the Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Information Bureau. The District Attorney then decides what to file. The Circuit Court opens a case only after charges are filed. This chain explains why a booking allegation, a prosecutor-filed charge, and a final conviction can use different terms. It also explains why a recent event may appear at one agency before it appears in a statewide or court system.

Sauk Bookings at Lange Court
The Sauk County Law Enforcement Center at 1300 Lange Court in Baraboo houses the Sheriff's Office, County Jail, Huber Center, and Communications Center. Jail staff can address current custody and booking questions at (608) 355-3210. Dispatch uses (608) 356-4895 or 1-800-377-1195. The county did not expose a conventional public, name-based jail roster in the official interface reviewed, so a direct jail call is the practical first check for recent custody.
Daily Inmate Counts are aggregate reports, not a Sauk County arrest lookup by name. A February 2024 report calculated an average head count of 135.41, including an average of 34.24 boarders from other jurisdictions. That distinction is vital. A daily count does not identify people, measure unique bookings, or prove that everyone held was arrested in Sauk County. County jail planning material lists a rated capacity of 188, but capacity also says nothing about an individual record.

Boarders must be kept separate from Sauk arrest totals when jail figures are read.
Looking Up Sauk County Arrests
No single database completes a Sauk County arrest lookup. Start with custody for a very recent event, then follow the record to the agency, court, and state system as needed. Have the person's full name, approximate arrest date and place, and incident or case number if known. Wisconsin Dells requires extra care because the city crosses several county lines.
- Identify the arresting agency and call the Sauk County Jail at (608) 355-3210 for current local custody. If the arrest occurred elsewhere, confirm which jail accepted the person.
- Request the arrest or incident report from the agency that made the arrest. Use the Sauk Sheriff form only for sheriff-created records; direct city reports to the city custodian.
- Search WCCA by name and Sauk County after filing. Check CF, CM, or CT case contexts, while allowing time for prosecutor review and court entry.
- Use WORCS for the later Wisconsin DOJ fingerprint-supported criminal-history response. It is not a real-time booking roster or police-report service.
- Use the sheriff's formal public-records channel when an online publication omits the narrative, photo, video, CAD log, 911 audio, or amended report sought.
- For a warrant-related arrest, check the public warrant list, then verify with law enforcement or the issuing court before relying on it.
Note: A missing jail entry may reflect release, another county, a juvenile restriction, or an event that never produced a booking.
Sauk Incident Reports Are Not Bookings
The Sheriff's official incident-report interface is the closest public-facing log found for sheriff events. It searches published incident material, not a universal arrest or booking roster. Results may expose an incident date, case number, type, associated names, and a linked PDF when one is available. A name appearing with an incident is not proof of an arrest, charge, or conviction.

When a PDF is missing or incomplete, request the exact record rather than infer that no arrest record exists.
Inside a Sauk County Arrest Record
A booking record describes jail intake and custody. It commonly identifies when the booking occurred, the arresting agency, the charges received by jail staff, bond or hold information, and the later release status. It may carry a jail identifier, limited demographic data, fingerprints, and a booking photograph where release is lawful. Medical information, security separation, juvenile information, victim details, and other protected material should not be expected in a public response.
These fields should be read as a custody snapshot, not as a final court result.

A request for the probable-cause narrative belongs with the arresting agency. A request for the judgment belongs with the court clerk.
Requesting Sauk Sheriff Arrest Records
The Sauk County Sheriff accepts open-records requests by drop-off, mail, and fax. Mail or deliver the request to the Sheriff's Department at 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, WI 53913. The published fax is (608) 355-3298. The Sheriff states that requesters should allow up to 10 business days. For incident-report help, call (608) 355-3211 and give a name, telephone number, case number, and a precise description of the desired record.
Describe the item instead of asking the custodian to answer a question. State whether the request seeks an incident narrative, arrest record, booking record, CAD log, 911 audio, photograph, or video. Include the date range, location, incident number, and agency if known. The Sauk County forms index is the official form route. A juvenile-report requester must state their relationship to the juvenile near the requester name.

Wis. Stat. § 19.35 allows actual, necessary, and direct reproduction costs. Location costs can apply when they reach $50 or more, and authorized prepayment may be required. The official sources did not establish a universal flat sheriff report fee. Active investigations, juvenile matters, victim-sensitive facts, confidential sources, medical data, and demonstrated public-interest harm can support withholding or redaction. Ask for segregable public portions when one part is restricted.
Booking Logs and Recent Arrests
Sauk County's official jail pages publish Daily Inmate Counts and other facility information, but no open name-based booking log was found in the reviewed interface. Call the jail for current custody. Then ask the arresting agency for its record. A released person may no longer be reflected in a present-custody response, and someone arrested by a city agency may still have a report at that city even if the Sauk jail has no current entry. No official Sauk Sheriff mobile app was confirmed, so do not expect an app-only roster.
For sheriff incidents, the public interface may provide a report PDF. The Sheriff's own notice says that only the MV4000 crash form may appear online in some traffic matters. Photos, an amended form, a narrative, or other documents may require a direct request. City departments remain separate custodians. Baraboo, Reedsburg, Wisconsin Dells, and Sauk Prairie reports should go to their respective police agencies.

Note: VINELink can flag custody changes, but neither notifications nor daily totals prove every prior Sauk County arrest or conviction.
Sauk Warrants Require Verification
The Sheriff publishes an active-warrant list with warrant number, issue date, name fields, date of birth, an abbreviated type code, and last-known address information. The list is a lead, not a live command to act. The Sheriff's warning says each warrant must be verified and only law enforcement should apprehend a person. Verification is available at 1-800-377-1195 or through local law enforcement.
The official Sauk warrant list makes that verification warning part of the record-search process.
New, sealed, or juvenile warrants may not appear, and a posted entry can change after publication.
Follow the list with a call, then check WCCA for a public related case and contact the issuing circuit or municipal court for its own warrant instructions. Someone trying to resolve their own warrant should obtain instructions from the issuing court or counsel. Do not arrive or confront anyone based on an unverified list. Finding Sauk Custody After Release
A Sauk jail result can disappear after release or transfer even though other records remain. Search WCCA for a filed court case. Ask the arresting agency for the report. Use the Wisconsin DOC Persons in Our Care search when a sentence or transfer places someone in state custody or supervision. WORCS answers a different question by returning the Wisconsin DOJ fingerprint-supported criminal-history response. None of these channels should be treated as a substitute for the others.
Federal custody also has its own route. The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator searches people held by or released from BOP.
A missing BOP result does not rule out a state, county, pretrial, or non-BOP federal status.
Venue remains central around Wisconsin Dells. Identify the arrest location, arresting department, booking jail, and county of court filing. Arrests Are Not Convictions
An arrest record proves that an agency documented an arrest or booking event. It does not prove guilt. Booking charges are allegations carried into intake. The District Attorney may decline, amend, or file different counts. A court disposition may later show dismissal, acquittal, or conviction. Reading only the booking line erases those later steps and can leave a false picture of the outcome.
The official records divide responsibility this way.

Wisconsin expungement under § 973.015 is narrow and ordinarily must be ordered at sentencing. Even when the circuit-court file is expunged, the statute does not automatically delete the police agency's executive-branch record. A wrong identity match in the CIB response follows the DOJ fingerprint challenge route, while a wrong disposition should be supported with certified court documentation.
Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and many bookings end without a conviction on the original allegation.
